It was a fabulous fall weekend at Johnson Shut-Ins Park.  We geared up for our weekend getaway on Friday after work and didn’t get home until late Sunday afternoon.  This was our first visit to the park and we will be sure to return.  The fall foliage was beautiful on the drive down!  Soon night set in and we found ourselves setting up camp in the dark.  Saturday we explored the Scour Trail, 2 miles of natural rocky tread.  The trail takes you to where the Taum Sauk Reservoir broke.  1.3 billion gallons of water were sent cascading down the mountain through Johnson’s Shut-Ins Sate Park.  After our hike we had lunch back at the campsite and headed off to Elephant Rock State Park.  Another first for everyone.  The giant boulders were quite the site to see.  A history packed adventure and great photo opportunities.  The evening ended with a bit of star gazing, campfire, and smores.  Before heading home we stopped at Fort Davidson Historical Site in Pilot Knob.  The boys enjoyed running around the fort and we got to enjoy a little more history at the museum before it was all said and done.  It was an A+ weekend for the Hagglunds!
